Accessible toilets
Complete Doc M toilet packs, toilet-height plinths, supportive backrests and practical accessories for accessible domestic, care and commercial washrooms.
From complete installations to the final detail
This category brings together complete sanitaryware packs and the accessories that influence how comfortably an accessible WC can be approached and used, from toilet-height plinths and backrests to toilet roll holders and other everyday details.
The starting point should be the finished toilet position: projection from the wall, seat height, transfer space and the relationship between the WC, grab rails and other support products.
Once those fundamentals are established, individual accessories can be selected to complement the user and the existing or chosen sanitaryware rather than being added as isolated products afterwards.
A coordinated WC zone
Complete Doc M pack or an existing toilet installation being adapted.
Consider standing, sitting and transfer requirements before fixing the WC height.
The toilet position affects support-arm, backrest and transfer geometry.
Position the backrest, rails and everyday accessories around the intended user.
Start here
Begin with a complete accessible washroom pack, or select individual products for height, back support and convenient everyday reach around an existing toilet installation.
02
Raise seat height
GRP and SMC plinths installed beneath compatible WC pans to increase the finished toilet and seat height.
03
Postural support
Fixed, adjustable and removable backrests for low-level, concealed-cistern and selected Pressalit wall-track or toilet-lifter installations.
04
Within easy reach
Wall-mounted and support-rail-mounted holders, including Pressalit PLUS and stainless-steel AWS configurations.
Think beyond the toilet pan
The individual products work best when their positions are resolved together. Toilet geometry affects the user's position, which in turn affects backrest depth, support location and reach to accessories.
Start with the WC, cistern arrangement and required projection.
Establish the finished height around transfers, standing and sitting.
Match backrest projection and adjustability to the installed toilet position.
Coordinate surrounding support arms or rails with transfer space.
Finish with toilet paper and other controls positioned for convenient use.
Complete AKW washroom packs
Doc M Toilet Packs
AKW Doc M packs simplify product selection by combining a raised-height WC with the principal grab rails and washroom components required by the chosen pack configuration.
Shop Doc M toilet packs →A packaged sanitaryware set does not determine compliance by itself. For projects in England, check the complete room layout against the current applicable Building Regulations guidance, including Approved Document M and, where relevant, Approved Document T, together with the project specification and Building Control requirements.
Permanent height adjustment
A toilet plinth sits beneath a compatible floor-standing WC pan, increasing its overall installed height. This can be useful where a higher transfer or sitting position is required without adding a separate raised seat on top of the sanitaryware.
Current AKW height options
The range includes GRP and SMC designs. Although described as universal, the pan footprint still needs to fit safely within the selected plinth, so check the dimensional diagram against the exact toilet before ordering.
Shop toilet plinths →Support and everyday reach
Back support and the position of frequently used accessories can have a disproportionate effect on how comfortable and practical the finished toilet is to use.
Choose simple padded AKW backrests or more configurable Pressalit PLUS systems. Selected PLUS models can move sideways or vertically on the wall-track system, while dedicated versions are available for compatible SELECT toilet lifters.
Shop toilet backrests →
The range includes individual wall-mounted holders as well as products incorporated into or attached beneath support rails. The Pressalit PLUS holder, for example, mounts discreetly beneath a compatible PLUS support arm.
Shop toilet roll holders →Before ordering
Small changes in toilet position can affect transfer space, backrest comfort, support-rail geometry and the ability to reach accessories. Confirm the complete arrangement before fixing the sanitaryware.
Establish the intended top-of-seat height rather than selecting the pan or plinth independently.
Check the distance from the finished wall to the front of the WC and its effect on transfer and back support.
Support arms and adjustable backrests require appropriate structural support and compatible mounting systems.
Match the cushion depth and mounting position to the pan projection and user's preferred seated posture.
Coordinate lateral clearances, support arms and surrounding fittings before finalising the toilet centreline.
Position toilet paper, flush controls and other frequently used fittings where they can be reached from the seated position.
Check compatibility before installation: toilet-pan dimensions, plinth footprints, backrest positions, wall construction and mounting systems vary between products. Always confirm the current technical information for the exact products being combined.
