Bring clothes into reach
Particularly useful for wheelchair users and people with reduced reach.
Use wardrobe height
High-level hanging space no longer has to become inaccessible storage.
Free space below
Lower wardrobe zones can remain available for drawers, baskets, shoes or another rail.
New or existing wardrobes
Suitable systems can be integrated into new cabinetry or added to compatible existing wardrobes.
Use the height without losing the reach
A wardrobe should not become inaccessible above shoulder height
Conventional wardrobes make an assumption: that the user can comfortably reach a fixed rail positioned high above the floor. For somebody using a wheelchair, sitting while dressing or living with restricted shoulder movement, that can put much of the wardrobe beyond practical reach.
A lowering clothes rail changes the relationship between the user and the storage. Clothing can remain stored at a useful height when it is not needed, then move down and forwards into a more accessible working position.
That is particularly powerful in a shared bedroom or dressing room. Accessible storage does not have to mean permanently lowering every rail and sacrificing the useful space beneath it.
Granberg BUTLER
Electric wardrobe access without compromising the storage design
Granberg's current BUTLER range uses powered telescopic clothes rails to bring hanging garments forwards and downwards. The BUTLER 730 is designed around normal wardrobe installation heights, while the longer-travel BUTLER 732 unlocks storage much higher in the wardrobe or room.

BUTLER 730
The everyday accessibility model. BUTLER 730 replaces the conventional fixed high-level rail with a powered rail that travels out from the wardrobe and down towards the user.
Designed for clothes stored at conventional upper wardrobe heights.
Approximately 704mm downward movement and 591mm outward movement.
Straight arms keep the system compact within the wardrobe.
Particularly suited to seated and wheelchair access.
112cm
Vertical travel
Extended curved-arm movement
BUTLER 732
The longer-travel model is designed to exploit genuinely high-level wardrobe space. Its extended movement allows the clothes rail to be installed much higher and still brought down towards a reachable position.
Approximately 1118mm downward movement and 762mm outward movement.
Curved arms provide the additional travel needed for high installations.
Particularly useful in tall wardrobes and walk-in dressing spaces.
Can free substantial lower wardrobe space for other storage.

The movement is easier to understand when you see it
Watch the wardrobe rail move out from its stored position and down towards the user. These demonstrations show why powered movement can make high-level hanging storage so much more practical.
Accessible Storage

Control & finish
The mechanism can stay discreet
BUTLER is designed as part of the wardrobe rather than as an obvious piece of accessibility equipment. The current generation combines compact motor housings, coordinated arm finishes and a chrome telescopic clothes rail with simple wireless operation.
Bluetooth control button:
supplied with the current BUTLER system for straightforward
local operation.
Optional handheld controls:
radio remotes can operate a single wardrobe lift or multiple
BUTLER units in a larger dressing room.
Integrated safety stop:
downward movement stops if the system meets an obstruction.

Electric or manual?
The important difference is who provides the movement
Both systems lower high-level clothing. The key question is whether the user should physically move the rail or whether the wardrobe should perform that movement for them.
Powered movement
The electric system is the stronger choice where independent access, repeatability and reduced physical effort are priorities.
Operation:
press a control and the rail moves electrically.
Physical effort:
the user does not have to pull the loaded rail down manually.
Load:
up to 30kg of hanging clothes across the current BUTLER range.
Best suited to:
accessible bedrooms, wheelchair users, shared wardrobes,
high-specification dressing rooms and high-level storage.
User-powered movement
Manual rails provide a simpler and more economical way to bring hanging clothes down where the intended user has sufficient reach, grip and upper-body strength to operate them.
Operation:
the rail is physically pulled down using its operating handle.
Power:
no electrical supply is required.
Assistance:
spring mechanisms support the movement, with soft-opening
available on selected Servetto systems.
Best suited to:
compatible wardrobes where simple mechanical access is
sufficient for the intended user.
The simpler alternative
Manual pull-down rails still have an important place
Not every installation needs a motorised system. Manual rails can provide effective high-level storage where the user is able to pull the loaded rail down and return it safely after use.
Servetto 2004:
available across several adjustable wardrobe-width ranges with
multiple colour choices and optional soft-opening assistance.
Häfele:
alternative manual pull-down rails cover different wardrobe
widths and load ranges.
Physical ability matters:
the mechanism assists the movement, but the user still needs
sufficient upper-body strength and reach to pull the rail down.
Installation is simpler:
the systems do not require an electrical supply, making them
useful for suitable existing wardrobes as well as new joinery.
Plan the wardrobe around the movement
Six things to establish before choosing the rail
A lowering clothes rail needs space not only where it is stored, but throughout its complete path towards the user.
User reach
Establish the comfortable seated or standing reach position the rail needs to achieve when fully lowered.
Internal wardrobe width
Measure the usable internal dimension rather than relying only on the external nominal cabinet width.
Required travel
Standard-height storage may suit BUTLER 730; much higher installations can justify the extended movement of BUTLER 732.
Clear movement zone
Shelves, drawers, doors and neighbouring fittings must not obstruct the complete path of the rail and hanging garments.
Cabinet structure
The wardrobe sides and fixing arrangement need to support the mechanism and the loads created as the clothes move outwards.
Controls & power
For an electric system, position the control within the user's comfortable reach and plan the electrical supply before the wardrobe installation is completed.
For electric wardrobe lifts: the wardrobe must be secure and suitable for the forces created by the moving loaded rail. Keep the complete movement path clear and follow Granberg's current fixing, anchoring, electrical and installation instructions for the exact BUTLER model selected.
More than an accessibility product
Moving the rail can make the whole wardrobe work harder
Once the hanging rail can move, the wardrobe no longer has to be designed around one permanently reachable height. High-level space can hold hanging clothes while the area below can be organised around the user and the room.
Upper zone
Powered hanging clothes that move into reach when needed.
Lower zone
Drawers, baskets, shelves, footwear or another clothes rail.
Shared users
Storage can work for people with very different reach ranges.
Walk-in wardrobes
High ceilings become usable storage rather than inaccessible void.
Bring the storage to the user
Make the whole wardrobe reachable
Choose BUTLER 730 for powered access at standard wardrobe heights, move to the longer-travel BUTLER 732 for high-level storage, or compare Servetto and Häfele manual rails where user-powered operation is appropriate.
