Start with the system, not the feature list
The biggest distinction in this category is not between individual washing programmes. It is whether the project needs a complete wash-and-dry toilet or an electronic bidet seat fitted to a compatible WC pan.
A complete shower toilet allows the pan, washing system, dryer, controls and installation arrangement to be specified as one coordinated product. This is the principal route for the Closomat and Geberit AquaClean ranges.
A bidet seat can be an effective retrofit where the existing pan is suitable and a complete WC replacement is unnecessary. Pan dimensions, fixings, water supply, electrical provision and the user’s preferred controls still need to be checked carefully.
Four questions narrow the choice quickly
Establish whether the existing WC pan is staying or being replaced.
Coordinate the chosen format with the drainage, wall structure and required seat height.
Consider reach, hand function, vision and whether another person may sometimes operate the toilet.
Check transfer space, support arms, lifters, shower chairs and servicing access as part of the same layout.

Complete Closomat and Geberit shower toilets are the principal ranges. Retrofit seats and AquaClean controls, accessories and replacement parts provide additional routes where a complete new toilet is not required.

Neither range is defined by a single type of user. The important distinction is how each system combines toilet format, control options, washing functions, surrounding support and long-term project requirements.

Closomat centres its range around the floor-standing Palma Vita and wall-hung Lima Vita, with bariatric, control, douche, support and service options allowing the specification to be adapted around more individual requirements.

AquaClean ranges from the accessible floor-standing Mera Care to wall-hung Mera and compact Tuma solutions. Depending on model, settings can include adjustable spray position and intensity, remote operation, user profiles, app control and warm-air drying.
Choose the installation route
Both can provide water-based personal washing. The difference is how much of the existing WC remains and how fully the washing, drying, flushing and control functions are integrated.
Choose the complete WC where washing technology should form part of the toilet from the outset and the existing pan is being replaced.
Retain a compatible WC pan and replace the conventional seat with an electronic washing seat or enhancement solution.

Control is part of the specification
Consider control position and operating method at the same time as the toilet itself. A small change in switch type or location can make a significant difference to everyday usability.
Selected models provide controls directly on the toilet or seat for straightforward local operation.
Allow functions and personal settings to be accessed from a more convenient position.
Geberit and Closomat offer selected wall-mounted, touchless or alternative switch arrangements.
Selected AquaClean models can store individual settings and be operated or configured through compatible digital controls.
Before ordering
Shower toilets combine sanitaryware with water, electricity and moving components. The room layout should therefore be checked against the selected model before plumbing, electrical work or wall construction is finalised.
Decide between floor-standing and wall-hung installation and establish the finished seat height around the intended user.
Provide the correct cold-water connection, isolation and pressure requirements for the selected toilet or seat.
Confirm the mains requirement and electrical connection position before tiling or closing walls and service voids.
Coordinate soil connection, flushing arrangement, concealed frames and cistern position with the exact model.
Check support arms, shower-chair compatibility, lateral transfer, toilet lifters and the clear space required around the pan.
Leave the clearances required to remove covers, maintain the system and reach isolation points after installation.
Model-specific planning matters: electrical, plumbing, support, control and servicing requirements differ between products. Confirm the current installation documentation for the exact toilet or bidet seat before work starts.
