Why shallow bowl?

A standard deep kitchen sink can require considerable forward and downward reaching, particularly when it is used from a seated position.

Accessible kitchen sinks use a reduced bowl depth to create more usable space beneath the worktop and make the bottom of the sink easier to reach. They can be used in fixed-height kitchens or integrated into a height-adjustable worktop.

What are the regulations?

Shallow bowl kitchen sinks are a requirement in accessible kitchens, according to Document M of the Building Regulations. 

According to M4(3) of Approved Document M, Volume 1: Dwellings, a sink must be no more than 150mm deep in wheelchair-accessible kitchens.
